With its sights firmly set on 311mph, the 1792bhp Hennessey Venom F5 has started its high speed testing, reaching over 250mph on day one.
We’ve heard this before haven’t we, an American tuner/manufacturer having sights set on travelling at over 300mph in a production car. While the SSC Tuatara didn’t truly reach that 300mph speed it claimed to begin with, Hennessey is here to go on step further and realise the dream.
The car it’s built to hit that golden figure is the Hennessey Venom F5. To achieve it, Hennessey has moved away from the existing lengethed Lotus Elise chassis it used for the Venom GT all those years ago and instead elected to use a new carbon fibre strutcture which was engineered by UK and Silverstone-based Delta Motorsport.
Powering the Hennessey Venom F5 is a highly tuned LS7 engine, producing 1792bhp @ 8000rpm, with 1193lb ft of torque. Well, it’s not really an LS7 engine as in reality at its core is a custom block with new pistons, con-rods, crank with two huge ball-bearing turbos with compressors that have been 3D printed. Guess what? All 1792bhp and 1193lb ft of torque is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential gearbox. 0-62mph is said to be over in 2.6 seconds, 124mph? 8.4. Ready for the big numbers? 0-249mph is over in 15.5 seconds while the final drive ratio of 0.675 is said to give a theoretical top speed of 334mph. The key word being theoretical.
